Are you worried you might overeat this weekend with all the Labor day celebrations?
Holiday barbecues, beach parties, neighborhood get-togethers, lots and lots of treats tempting you to decide that you can restart that healthy plan you had on Monday.
We have all been there.
You tell yourself you’ll only have this, you’ll only try that. Only to wake up after the weekend feeling bloated, tired and regretting that last piece of cake!
If this is you, just taking these 3 tips and putting them into action will change how you feel after a weekend of celebrating for good and move you closer to that goal you’ve been chasing for far too long!
Step 1: Eat a snack before you go.
When you are hungry, it is so much harder to stay on track and say no to tempting treats. So curb your appetite with a healthy light snack before you head out to your next party. Have a salad, some cheese or nuts or make your favorite smoothie. When you arrive with a smaller appetite, you are able to turn down that second serving and more likely to make better choices the first go around as well.
Step 2: Bring a healthy dish to share.
You arrive at the barbecue or party with every intention of staying on track. You look around at the buffet of choices to find that there is nothing there you can/should eat. You are hungry, (hopefully not starving because you followed step 1) and it’s either eat what is there or go hungry. You are stuck!
Luckily, you followed step 2 and brought your favorite healthy dish and enough to share so you are set! A great salad with a homemade dressing, a vegetable plate with a great dip, your best crustless quiche or frittata… whatever you decide but just make sure you come prepared with an option that fits into your plan.
Step 3: This is my favorite one: Decide ahead of time what you are ok with. Make a plan!
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” Funny how I can always find a way to fit that one in, isn’t it? But seriously, if you walk in without a plan, suddenly your decisions are all spur of the moment. I don’t know about you, but I am not nearly as tough on myself in that situation as I should be. So, I decide ahead of time what my plan is. 1 glass of Sangria? A small taste of the desert? Or are we sticking 100% to plan this time? Once I make the decision, I repeat it to myself when we arrive and voila! So much easier to stick to a plan when you have one, right?
